Join MPA and other engaged members to learn more about public policy and process issues facing the development community in Southern Arizona. Our Policy Committee meets monthly and features a new topic of discussion along with exploring ongoing issues.
In 2024, Arizona passed House Bill 2721, requiring cities like Tucson to allow more middle housing—such as duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes—on single-family lots by January 1, 2026. If the City doesn’t act, the law will apply automatically, bypassing local input. Middle housing offers more affordable, flexible living options and helps reduce car dependency by placing homes closer to jobs, schools, and services. Tucson is working on locally tailored policies to meet these requirements while preserving neighborhood character.
