Megdal is Director of The University of Arizona Water Resources Research Center (WRRC)\, a Cooperative Extension center and a research unit in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Her work focuses on water policy and management\, on which she writes and frequently speaks.  She also holds the titles: Professor and Specialist\, Department of Environmental Science; C.W. & Modene Neely Endowed Professor; and Distinguished Outreach Professor. She serves as Director of the University of Arizona Water\, Environmental and Energy Solutions Program\, which is funded by the Technology Research Initiative Fund. \nThe geographic scope of Dr. Megdal’s work ranges from local to international.  Current projects include: comparative evaluation of water management\, policy\, and governance in growing\, water-scarce regions; groundwater management and governance; groundwater recharge; and transboundary aquifer assessment.  She is the lead editor of the book\, Shared Borders\, Shared Waters: Israeli-Palestinian and Colorado River Basin Water Challenges. \nHenry Johnstone\, GLHN’s president\, discovered an interest in sustainable energy when he moved to Arizona to study solar energy in the early 1980s. After earning both a B.S. and an M.S. in mechanical engineering\, he began to focus on designing sustainable systems at healthcare and higher education campuses. Now\, institutions nationwide who wish to design more sustainable and cost effective utility systems or use alternative fuel technologies seek out Henry’s expertise. He led the effort to design new thermal energy storage systems at universities throughout the Southwestern U.S.\, as well as in Alaska and Illinois. He also works with municipalities who want to explore options for district energy in their downtown locations. \nIn addition to his design work\, Henry has presented papers on the theoretical and technical aspects of his work and is the author of many articles about the water-energy nexus—the effect of air conditioning use on our water supply. He regularly participates in GLHN’s symposiums for university facilities and maintenance personnel and has lectured internationally on topics related to combined heat and power\, district energy\, and energy economics. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the International District Energy Association. \nThank you to GLHN Architects & Engineers for being our October Breakfast Sponsor! \n \nThank you to our wonderful event partner and host:

This is a great opportunity for members of MPA and SAHBA to network and learn more about this topic\, which impacts ALL development in the City of Tucson. \nJoin City of Tucson Planning and Development Services Director\, Scott Clark\, for a presentation on the City’s impact fee study and the proposed new fees. On August 6th at a Study Session\, the Mayor and Council directed staff to move forward with their draft LUA and IIP lists along with the following changes: \n\n residential fee methodology\, calculating fees based upon square footage rather than dwelling units\nService areas\, going from 5 to 3 with an optional city wide one for RTA projects\nNew fee categories for churches\, schools and hotels\nIncreases to commercial fees\n\nThe City is on track to approve the LUA\, IIP and associated fees in November\, with the new fees going into place in February of 2020. \nThis breakfast is in partnership with: \nThank you to our wonderful event partner and host:
